Debuffs to Track

Crashing Comet – 230345

Try and roll Riptide on the least durable raid members affected by this debuff. Holy priests, hunters, and mages are normally great targets. Healing Stream Totem is also very effective for targets affected by this debuff. Make sure you watch these players during Infernal Burning and Shattering Star!

Melted Armor – 234264

This is the tank swap. Track this to ensure you can swap riptide to the current tank (even better when running Ancestral Vigor).

Timing Your Cloudbursts

The large spikes in damage are Shattering Star, the main source of raid damage in the encounter. These occur at 30 seconds, and then every 60 seconds afterward. It is ideal to have a cloudburst ready for the spike that follows the impact.

The secondary spike in damage is from Infernal Burning. These occur at 1 minute and every 60 seconds afterward. It is also ideal to have a cloudburst prepared for each of these. What this means is that damage spikes shortly after 30 seconds, and again at 1 minute. That means that you can Cloudburst shortly before the pull (at around 10 seconds on the pull timer), again at around 25 seconds into the pull and then at 55 seconds. Repeat these timings, and you should be able to counteract the large spikes in raid damage.

Canibehealz ran a typical Torrent/Spirit/AG/APT/Echo/HT setup for Goroth. Despite the opportunities to get strong Cloudbursts on Goroth with the several raid wide mechanics, he preferred his typical early progression build with Echo for both comfort and ease without knowing specific boss timings.

Canibehealz: “CBT requires prior knowledge of an encounter to see its strongest value. With many bosses, I start the encounter with Echo to learn timings over a couple pulls. This allows me to do more damage as healing requirements are low on the first boss, traditionally speaking”.

An additional note: his team 5 healed Goroth, making CBT have a higher chance of just overhealing without even more precise timing.”

Running a typical setup, I was aiming to heal through the large burst damage from Infernal Burning and Shattering Star.  Infernal Burning is when you want to use stacked burst healing spells like Gift of the Queen as well as healing rain if needed.  Shattering Star is best dealt with by precasting HTT (which will heal people with comet debuffs). Allowing the later ticks to quickly top the raid or with AG into Chain Heal onto clumps of players (melee is a good choice, or if there is a ranged stack).

Goroth, while mechanically simple, required a mix of both spot healing and raid healing. I found little use for ground-based spells, like Gift of the Queen and Healing Rain, due to our spread strategy and lack of melee. I played the fight by topping off players affected by debuffs and those soaking. I used a mix of Riptide, Healing Wave and Healing Stream Totem, while using Chain Heal and raid cooldowns for the large bursts of damage.

“I used the standard talent setup of Torrent/AG/EST/CBT/HT – with Echo from the Farseer Legendary. Echo proved quite useful for this fight since there’s a lot of spot healing. I had no idea how to time cloudburst effectively, but due to the DoTs [Crashing Comet] that were constantly on at least 3 people, it was normally effective no matter what. As a result, I just dropped it on cooldown.”
